22/V/41 Trench 43/75 Stratum 2
By 8:00 AM they are through the stony layer over most of the part marked for excavation. This includes all the NE part of the trench, leaving a corner of the stony layer next the wall, as vestige of the floor next the wall. L 4/ [crossed out symbol] Shards see p. 109 rather few, plain ware, some handles etc. that ought some day to be datable. They have cleaned\* part of the stony stratum along the SE side of the trench with the idea that it might be a wall, so many stones, but it seems fallen or dumped in. Photographs. See opp. In clearing toward S., found among stones, of stratum 2 iron nail head.
Margin left: M 313
The photographs should show the surface of the stratum below the stones, and, toward S., the sample of stony stratum to full hit against the wall. (The surface cleaned\* was not the top of the stratum as will be clear in the scarp behind it.)
Cleared next to lower stratum, below stone, sherds at ca 1.60 below surface, .67 above fine wall - see p. 101. The sherds from L 5 [crossed out symbol] see p. 109/ the stony layer about same amount as many as from the surface layer.
