found partly under the bones cleared: pieces of red ware pot of fair size, twisted handle (1st earlier BC type?) (buff clay), and a much blackened frag. of coarse ware, a piece of gold leaf (not of one of the slender little tiny leaves found near head of burial # 4 - see p. 9) was with this mess, but exact position not seen. another tiny bit ca .20 from rim of twisted handle in direction of big nail, level of handle. another curiously placed pottery frag.: part of neck possibly of #26, found close by alabastron. No - part of #6 (glued on)

Achmet working in from S toward center line, in fill from under bones + sherds drawn p. 17. (Added pieces of bite near finger, at sl. lower 2.50 - 2.65, .70 fr. center line, and removed this too). Uncovers unguentarium, —#38 with neck missing, & further toward center more bones.

[margin left: See plan suppl. sheet 2] High bones, cleared more fully yesterday by gold see p. 18: gold in skull #9 probably showed more or less in several photographs, but were full of dirt. They seem to be a discard pile, and include best preserved cranium frags. cleared in the tomb. 2 big pieces rest at level .02 or .03 higher than resting plane of bowl # 7, with a piece of one of the mostly longer bones at sl. higher level, one ends - partly on stones, other small-ware frags. closely connected step down to a floor on which lie Burial 4 etc. Here frags. include part of a rib, and large part of front of skull, discolored green, 7 teeth 15 in place (not front ones), also possibly humerus?

The bones with the "strigil" possibly continuation of same heap. Seem to include the 4 lower leg bones, crossed, w. 2 femurs?, w. possibly toes, but a lot of smaller hardly human bones
