all probability they must have some connection with a drain for the fore court was in all + probability unroofed. They would thus ressemple in function the stones outside the apsidal cold bath.
N.B. The fore court is so large that it must have been unroofed. Possibly there might have been supports of ceiling roof but of these there are no traces and any such supports would have spoiled the effect of the [illegible] fore-court. These stones can have drained the water only into the drain which empties into cistern. The arrangement with the door and by entrance latrine and the drain is some what confused. But may not the reason for the drain wall making a corner so far just east of the drain be found in the fact that we here have a meeting of the an avoidance of the door and a joining with the drain for of the fore court.

The style of the east wall is that of the third and not of the second. That this wall does not belong to first period is beyond dispute because it lies over wall of first period. It might conceivably belong to second period but as its style is different not only the tiles and the way the stones are laid, but, also the large roughly cut stones used to mark off pond in the EW walls, - these resemble the large stones used in caldarium.
Note, however that the north EW wall follows the line of the north wall of room west of large, which wall because it does not cut the soil below the second line must represent be part of the second period.
Note also that the south wall by west wall does not cut soil but rests on the stump of an older wall
This would show that the east wall follows line walls one of which is definitely of secondary, and the other either of second or first period. Could The evidence on neither side is conclusive. There must have been
