21-3-39Tomb 17

Find tomb 17 at the edge of the upper terrace, about 15 m S-E of tomb 13. It is full of red earth with bones and pottery, mainly L.C.III, and appears to be completely plundered

1-4-39 Find the floor of the tomb, plundered. I propose abandoning it, but Christo insists on cleaning the floor. A few minutes later Nikolas, workman, finds four two pairs of gold ear-rings, in the shape of calf's heads.

3-4-39 Continue clearing the tomb, apparently thoroughly plundered

4-4-39 Find numerous fragments of the famous window krater, British Museum C 391, proving 53 that this is the Brit. Mus. Tomb 102. Close to the S-E, another chamber opening onto the same dromos: 102 (Br. Mus. 53). A large stone which we bought last year from Yorkos Loizoa, was found by Sokrates, closing the stomion of the tomb.
