26.5.38| TR. 12, pit (from p. 117) In the north the fill of the "mound" ends with bed-rock under the rock fill in the western part. To the east the bed-rock is cut, so this earth is covered only by the rock fill, at 6.92. The 7.72 floor in the pit stops: short of the rock in the north, and gives way to very loose earth with stones. It looks almost as if there had been a wall here. Photo Q8 at 7.72 Q8 | Dig below 7.72, through very gritty earth free of stones. It still contains bones and many sherds. Start to find a level of crushed rock at 7.93 Today we cut a small section under the rock fill to the N.E of the pit.

27.5.38 The 7.93 level is in part of crushed rock, whitish sandstone, with many fair-sized pieces. To the east this level is of completely pulverized yellow sandstone. Photo Q9 at 7.93 Dig below 7.93 and find the white rock fill everywhere, at 7.98=8.28, (to p. 129)
