relatively level strosis of firm grey-brown earth. Everything stops at it. It contains only very few stones. The hard sandy earth noted above in the N part of the pit stops at this level. In the south, between the pit proper and the floors just north of the big triangular stone, we find a band of soft grey earth cutting both the pit and the 7.92 floor. It slopes slightly to the N. (over the pit), and is in turn covered by the 7.67 level. It seems to represent an attempt at the time of the 7.92 floor to isolate the pit. In the east of this section we find some long narrow pieces of stone, laid erect. On the south they are sunk into the 7.92 floor. On the north they rest on stones lying in the soft black earth. This seems to be a part of a stone facing of the pit (or rather, mound), preserved intact. Photo 26-7 of mound facing. (to p. 119)
