to 8.11 in the south.

25-5-38 Dig below 7.64 = 8.11 and start to find harder brown earth at 8 7.64 = 8.25. This level still slopes up to the stones in the north. There still is very little real change in the earth. Start to dig below 7.64 = 8.25, removing the stones in the north, which rest on this level.

26-5-38 Find slightly darker earth at 8.28 in the south. In the north we find a change to nearly pure sandstone at 7.92, with some stones which look in-situ. This yellow earth is only very near the big stone; elsewhere it is as in the south. E Below 7.92 = 8.28 we find that the earth is very soft in places, harder in others. Dig out the soft first. Realizing that the difference between soft & hard earth is not fundamental here we dig it all together, and find loose earth with many small stones at 8.63
