Clean the wall between 4:7 4:8 and 4:11. The earth charges over the line of the wall at the level.

20-4-38 Dig below 9.42/9.55, through red earth with grits and white vegetable matter, and find a still redder level with white grit, at 9.71. Probably both levels are tumble. Both are unusually red. Photo 223 at 9.71 (lightly double-exposed) In the south the 9.71 level is as noted, and remarkably level. In the north there is an uneven layer of burnt earth with many burnt bricks. Dig below 9.71 in the south through loose red earth with white grits. This goes down into a masonry-lined pit. The red earth is uniform until 60 cm. below the top of the west stone, where it becomes mixed, but of the same gritty texture. No sherds were found above 0.60 The fill changes at 0.80 to grey sandy earth, and ends with a paved floor 85 cm. down. (to p. 190)
