TR. 6

Recommence work in Tr. 6 Photo 115 of Tr. 6, East south, as dug in 1937. Extend the west trench up-hill to the south, giving it a total length of [blank] M., two meters wide. The earth, top-soil, in both these sections is redder and lighter than elsewhere in Lot 270. At about 40 cm. down find gravelly earth. Two sections with lime plaster seem to be pits sunk from the surface to make plaster for the 19th century road.

Photo 224 at 0.40 Dig below 0.40, through mixed dark earth, and find a distinct change to light brown earth, at 0.65 (S.) Stones appear at this level. These belong to a broad wall, only one or two courses deep, cut off both ends by intrusions. This rests on slightly redder earth at 0.85. Photo [blank] at 0.85.

Margin left: 22-4-38

Dig below 0.85 through a redbrown earth, finding bed-rock at [blank] . A pit is not a tomb. No good floor levels have been found in this trench. (to p. 191)
