Photo 190 of section E of 2:22 at 11.35 Dig below 11.35, to 11.42, through clean sandy earth with much ash, reaching a firm trod level of rather similar earth, surely a habitation level. 11.35 was also trod. Photo 192, at 11.42. Digging below 11.42, through clean sandy earth find a very hard gravelly level, grey with chunks of brick, at (S) 11.45, (N)in. There are sherds on it, and it is surely a floor. Contrary to what I was originally thought, the 11.42 floor is not the same as the red clay visible at the south end of the wall. This clay, noticeable also on the E-W wall N of Unit in wall, seems to belong to the masonry.

Begin digging below 11.28 = 11.53, through grey sandy earth. In order to have clear ceramic evidence we dig the east part first, taking the 1st 15 cm. first, then the rest, going to a level which is in part rock, in part clayey earth, in part very stoney. To p. 155
