[underlined: 20-4-37]TRENCH 2

[underlined: Unit 1:] Dig through the 9.77-9.80 floor, taking first the material of the floor itself only. It is made in part of lime, in part of chavara, and in part of clay. In places in the west it rested on rock, but in the east it rests on a layer of [strikethrough: 9.71 =] [strikethrough: 9.93] 5-23 stony red-brown earth. ([strikethrough: 9.71] 9.71 = [strikethrough: 9.93] 9.73) Clear out the fill around the pithos, in the S.E corner. It is of somewhat greyish earth with a few medium to small stones.

Underlined: 21-4-37

[underlined: Unit 1:] Continue clearing the grauab of the pithos. It cuts bed-rock at [insertion: .47] 10.30, 1 below the top of the pithos [insertion: (9.83)]. At the line of the rock the cutting is packed with gravel. At the least the pithos is jammed up against the wall to unit 8. The top of the pithos is at 9.88. [underlined: Unit 18:] On 19-4-37 we dug through the 10.61 = 10.64 floor, finding the spáxos floor everywhere under the red gritty floor. In the N.W corner there is a brick construction. The spáxos floor is at 10.62 = 10.70
