Photo Film 23 of unit 9, at ca. 9.50 = 9.90, showing top of pithos in situ.

tumble22-3-37 Dig down in unit 9, through reddish tumble with some small stones. For 3 or 4 centimeters above the floor there is a layer of particularly clayey earth, doubtless fallen from roof or walls. This covers the east wall of the unit, found today. Find a good floor of stamped earth at 9.89-9.97.. There is a great deal of pottery on it. Find a cylinder seal on the floor (p. 154, #1) - actually just below the 9.89 = 9.97 floor.

23-3-37 Clear east wall of unit 9.

Photos C.West?Dig through 9.33 = 9.47 level in unit 1, and find a floor of red-brown earth, much redder than that above it, at 9.40 = 9.53. At the east it runs up on gritty, packed earth with crushed stone which covers cuttings in the bed-rock (⊕ 9.03). To the south and east it runs to a poor row (to p. 161)
