TRENCH 4 17 to 20.3.37

Clear in unit 5 to a packed earth floor at 9.66=9.83. This ends with bed-rock in the north, and goes under the fire-place in the S-W corner, which belonged to the 9.62=9.79 floor. The group of stones at , which looked like a post-support at the 9.62=9.79 level now looks like part of a wall, or perhaps a post support built on top of an earlier, and disused wall.

In Unit 9 find a change of earth (sandy brown) at 9.50=9.90 in the north. This seems not to be a floor, for while the layer continues in the south, the stones and a large vat-like pithos do not stop at it. Change sherds and continue on down. see p for a pot found at ca. 9.50 In unit 8 find a level with much carbonized matter and very red (burnt) earth at 9.42=9.55.

Dig in units 6+7, clarifying the wall between them, and finding floors of stamped earth at 9.37 in unit 6 and 9.52 in unit 7. Photo Bam 24 of unit 7 at 9.52. (to p. 155)
