19-3-37| TRENCH 2 | 19-3 (from p. 141) Photos B 9-10 of unit 5 at ⊕ 8.95 = 9.05 Finish clearing unit 5 to the 8.95 = 9.05 level. This is a floor of stamped brown earth, moderately firm. In the west corner are a grinder of river-stone and fragments of one large and one mediumsized pot (pithos ) [Nos. 6-8, p. 144]. These lie in and about a rectangle formed of the wall to unit 2, a large block of stone to the East, and clay on the two other sides. Photos Bam 21-22 of unit 5 at 8.95 = 9.05 (see p. 164) Clear unit 7 to a level 8.86 = 9.01, sloping up to rock at the top, and in a joining the floor on which the pithos was found in the original trench 2 (⊕ 9.28). Just below (i.e. E. of) the pithos, the floor is cut by intrusions.

20-3-37Start digging through the 8.95 = 9.05 level in unit 5, and find a better floor, also of earth, at (8.94) = 9.35. This slopes down to the wall between units 5 and 9. A break in (to p. 165)
