15 Jan52. Removed 0.50-1.00 m. w. of w. face of e. wall of S. Bldg. and 00-1.00 m. n. of n. face of s. wall 2953-3, hard whitish fill with few stones averaging less than fist size, about 1/12 bucket sherds. No other finds. Removed also same area 00-1.00 n. of s. wall and 00-1.00 w. of e. wall 2955-4 much like 2 2955-3 but whiter and harder - only four small sherds. No other finds save frag. figurine which I have placed in sherd bag. See also 3007-4. 16 Jan. 52. Removed 7.80-9.00 m. n. of s. face of s. wall of S. Bldg. 7.80- 9.00 m. and 00-0.75 m. 2955-5, moderate amount of rough stones, ranging from egg to foot in size - moderately compact reddish soil, 9 small sherds - no tile frags or other finds. Removed 1.00-3.00 m. s. of n.e. corner of S. Bldg. between S & SE bldgs, 3009-1 reddish brown soil - almost all stones left which look as they are like a fallen wall. See Film ; about 1/4 bucket of sherds; 6 small tile frags. which I am throwing out; frag. Roman lamp rim F 1989 and some glass frags. F 1990. No other finds. Removed 0.20-1.90 m. n. of s. face of s. wall of S. Bldg. between S & SE Bldgs 2957-5, hard brown soil with amany stones averaging from fist to foot in size; handful of sherds & 1 ter. figurine frag. F 1991. 8 tile frags. which I am stacking on foundation of w. wall of SE Bldg. No other finds. Removed 00-0.50 n. of s. wall of S. Bldg. and 00-1.00 w. of e. wall 3007-5 hard red soil without stones larger than walnut size - few - 3 sherds only - no tiles - no other finds. Removed S. of S. Bldg. 1.60-7.80 m., 40.00-43.00 m. e. of w. wall 3011-5, loose dark grayish soil with very few stones, 10 sherds only, no tiles & no other finds. Darkness of soil possibly due to fire. Removed same area 3011-6, compact red soil with moderate amount stones averaging not much more than egg size but some up to foot size, about 1/4 bucket sherds. No tiles. 7 frags. figurines F 1992. No other finds. Removed 0.20-1.90 m. n. of s. wall of S. Bldg. between S & SE Bldgs. 2957-6 hard reddish earth fill with few stones, none larger than fist size - averaging egg size. No finds. 17-25 Jan. Cleaning e. of court in SE Bldg. No trenches dug but few very small pits to see whether wall extends at various points. Dug intermittently between 25 Jan & 14 Feb. with from 3 to 15 men. 14 Feb 52. Finished cleaning foundation of s. wall of S. Bldg. to depth of approx. 0.10 m. below top of foundation between s. wall and early wall from 25.00-32.40 m. e. of w. wall - practically up to storeroom door. Loose brown soil removed only - no stones, about 1 bucket sherds of which I have thrown out 2/3 no tiles; 1 Cypriot character incised on sherd F 1994. and 1 frag. figurine placed with sherds. No other finds. 14-18 Feb. Finished cleaning same 32.80-37.80 but only down to foundation of S. wall & over foundation. 4 nondescript coarse ware thrown out. No other finds. Removed from 0.05 to 0.10 m. of soil Removed same from 21.00-25.00 m. e. of w. wall and 00-1.20 m. s. of s. wall & to depth of 0.25 m. below top of foundation of s. wall. See 2615-5. Loose reddish soil with few rough stones not larger than walnut size. See Film 166-23. Removed 3 figurines & 2 sherds placed all in one bag. F 1995. No other finds. Removed same 00-0.52 s. of s. wall between wall and ancient road. Same from top xxxxxx of foundation of wall to depth of 0.20 m. below. In places removed some soil over foundation. 13.00-21.00 m. e. of w. wall. Loose clean soil without stones - brown to dull reddish soil. See Film 166-24. See section p. 2623-2. Removed 12 small sherds only. No other finds. Removed 00-5.00 m. s. of S. Bldg. & 00-1.40 m. e. of w. wall 3015-1, loose reddish brown soil with good number of rough stones averaging about fist size but up to foot in size. probably all a filling in. About 1/10 bucket sherds. No other finds. No ribbed wares. See Film 165-25. Removed 00-0.47 m. w. of w. wall of S. Bldg. and at 1.60 to 2.50 n. of s.w. corner, p. 3019-1, reddish loose soil with few stones not larger than walnut size. About 2 to 3 handfuls of sherds. No other finds. Dug 00-4.40 m. south of SE Bldg. & 11.10-17.60 m. east of west wall, 3023-1, an debris - between 2 walls running north south (See Film 166-26 & 27) many stones … continues
