I note now that my computed intercolumniation brings the south face of plinth 5 (restored) over the s. face of large block This is beneath it in stylobate wall - the only large block in the vicinity. See Film strong confirmation for the intercolumniation xxx 2.42 as computed. 148-32. Block can be seen also in w. face of wall.

It was not certain where capital found near column drums for columns 3 & 4 belonged, but it is now clear that it belongs to column 3 as it is not high enough for 4. Am repairing & restoring this block with white cement (1 part) and xxxx sand (5 parts). Christo has put a little ochre cement paint in on his own initiative to make the color more like the stone. Have made a mold in gypsum to xxxxxxx restore the moulding (a templet).

Have brought capital from room 4, Arch. block no. 249, to place on column 4. The two drums

have a total height of 2.73 .255 h. of capital Arch. bl. 249 2.985

Am restoring this capital also in same way as Arch. block no. (see p. 2510). Drilling holes in breaks for rivets for greater strength. See Film 149-xx3.

Feb. 13& 14. Set up 2 drums of column 4 of w. stylobate of room 5. No doubt but that these two belonged here. Renewed plinth. Plan to place capital from room 4, Arch. block 249, on top. See Arch. notes pp. 2510& 2512. Patching up damaged portions of lower drums with lime concrete in ratio 1:2:4 (lime, sand, pebbles). Am binding one drum to the other with liquid cement. Am using liquid cement also to secure the plinths on the stylobate. Am using liquid gypsum as mortar in restoring the stylobate. Have patched up ancient parts of stylobate with lime concrete.

Removed room 3, west side, 00-5.55 m. north of s. wall, P. 2501-3; loose reddish brown soil, few stones, rough ones, averaging about egg size, practically no larger ones. Over 1/3

bucket of sherds; only 5 tile frags; 3 nondescript ones thrown out; 2 placed with sherds in sherd bag. 1 figurine placed in sherd bag. 3 pot handles bearing letters F 1584-87. No other finds. Placed these all in one bag marked F 1584-87.

Restored stylobate wall between columns 5 & 6 of w. stylobate room 5. See Film 149-5, 6, & 7.

Restoring capital Arch. block 249 with slightly stronger concrete than thht used for capital for 3rd column (Arch. block no. ) formula: 1 cement, 2 crushed up terracotta; 4 sand and 1/2 handful of ochre cement paint.

Set up broken drum of column 5 on w. stylobate of room 5. Repaired this by putting in part (pour?) channels at breaks and filling with gypsum inside and sealing with mixture of white cement, sand, and ochre cement paint.

15 & 16 Feb. Restored w. end stylobate (w. stylobate room 5) and placed restored plinth on it for 6th column which I have taken from debris opposite main entrance to room 4 just north of portico. Arch. block. See Film 149-14. Patching up north end of stylobate.

Removed S. Bldg. room 3, s. side, s. of s. stylobate, 2515-1, fill. Dark grey very loose soil, many rough stones averaging fist size but some up to foot size. No tiles. About 1/2 bucket sherds. 3 pot handles bearing incised letter A (F ). No other finds.

17 Feb.51. Removed S. Bldg., room 3, w. side, 00-5.55 m. north of s. wall, 2501-4, very loose reddish brown soil, a great many rough stones, no worked ones - averaged about fist size but some up to foot size. 3 tile frags. only - placed with sherds; about 3/4 bucket sherds; and 8 pot handles bearing incised characters F 1589. No other finds.
