Removed also s. of s. stylobate of room 3 2513-2, loose reddish brown soil with many rough stones averaging about fist size but some over fbot size; no tiles; about 1/5 bucket sherds; 4 pot handles bearing letters F 1590. No other finds save 1 figurine which I have placed in sherd bag. Cleaned room 5, center, lower debris, part left round fallen column drums & architectural blocks after removing these. Found about 1/6 bucket sherds and frags. of pithos which may belong to another pithos from this room now in storeroom. Though very few sherds a great quantity of tiles came from left over lower debris - have stacked these on east stylobate wall near north end. Only other find was frag. early imperial lamp F 1591. The stack of tiles measures 96 x 0.62 x 0.40 m. Removed S. Bldg. room 3, w. side, 5.50-7.50 m. north of s. wall, 2445-3; very loose reddish soil with great quantity of rough stones averaging fist size but some up to foot size; more stones than soil; about 1/6 bucket sherds; 4 tile frags. placed in sherd bag. No other finds. Removed room 3, w. side, what appears to be a footing trench for the west stylobate wall which

Page 2524 runs 2.90-6.65 m. north of s. wall, P. 2505-1. Very loose smi dark brown soil with comparatively few stones, all rough ones, averaging about fist size - some up to half foot size. No tiles; 21 sherd frags. only, frag. terracotta lamp which appears to be of pinched lip type F 1592. No other finds. Removed also room 3, s. side, P. 2513-3, 3.20-7.30 east of w. wall; very loose reddish soil, many rough stones averaging fist size but some up to foot size; about 1/5 bucket sherds, no tiles. 3 pot handles bearing incised characters F 1593. No other finds.

Page 2526 20 Feb. 51. Removed S. Bldg., room 3, w. side, 00-7.50 m. north of south wall, P. 2501-5, very loose reddish soil, great many rough stones averaging between egg size & fist size, none as large as foot size; no tiles, about 1/5 bucket of sherds. 1 pot handle with Cypriot character F 1594. 2 bronze frags. F 1595, and coin F 1596. Last 3 days repaired capital (Arch. block no. ) and set it up today on column 2, w. stylobate, room 5. Repaired with 1 part white cement, 4 sand (dark), 1 broken terracotta, and red & yellow cement paint - a sprinkling. For Arch. bl. no. See Film 149-

Page 2528 21 Feb. 51. Work called off at 9.00 A.M. on account of rain. 2513 22 Feb. 51. Removed S. Bldg., room 3, south side, P. 2573-4, very loose reddish soil, great many rough stones in upper part of stratum averaging between egg & fist size - none larger - fewer stones toward bottom of stratum smaller and fewer averaging about walnut size. 3 tile frags., one thrown out, and two placed in sherd bag. About 12/ bucket of sherds and coin F 1597. The top of strat. 5 below 4 appears to have been a ground level at one time - definitely so - consists of beaten earth and small chunks of stone (chavara) about thumb size. This ground level or floor does not occur near s. wall - that is not the beaten mud although small chunks of chavara do occur immediately over foundations for south wall of building. Page 2530 Removed room 5, w. side, 5.40-11.55 m. south of north wall, P. 2523-1, moderately loose reddish soil, many rough stones averaging foot size, few up to bucket size, fair number of smaller stones also. Stratum appears to be ancient debris which was later filled in. The bottom of this fill served as foundation for an early floor - over the demolished foundation of an early wall running north-south. Remains of this floor occur farther south and along w. stylobate wall. See Film 149-28, 29, 30. About 1/5 bucket sherds (no late sherds noted) and about bucket of tiles which I have stacked on w. wall opposite column 4. No other finds.

Page 2532 Removed room 3, w. side, 2.70-6.90 north of s. wall, and 00-0.20 w. of w. stylobate, P. 2505-2, possibly a footing trench for w. stylobate wall. Very loose reddish soil without stones, no tiles; handful of sherds, and frag.
