Have sieved 1287-5 and removed about 3 handfuls of sherds, 10 coins (F1287- 96), abox of lamp frags. F 1298 and a box of metal frags. F 1297.

<u>Page 2160</u> <u>9 June 50.</u> Removed SE Bldg., north portico, E 16-22, P. 2161-1 (a &b) (consistent fill of many small rough stones and chips, dark soil, very loose fill) - probably, almost certainly the fill of an intrusive pit as it goes much below the floor level and foundation of any floor that was here. About 1 1/2 wheelbarrow loads of sherds, and 2 wheelbarrow loads of tiles

which I am stacking up in SE Bldg court. Just west of east stylobate at S 2.00 (Tr. 11 system). Have placed on top of stack frags. of marble tiles. From this fill come F 1299-1308. Removed immediately to east of doorway to room 4 in portico E 6-7, 2035-3, small amount of debris - containing sherds many of which appear to belong to F 1198. Have placed them in bag of sherds so marked (pot). Removed 2 jamb blocks belonging to north jambs of door (room 4) from portico and placed them in same relative position to each other in room 4 just by lower north jamb which has been set up on threshhold block. One is a tie piece. See Film 142-22.

<u>Page 2162</u> <u>10 June 50.</u> Removed SE Bldg. E 20-32 S 11.50-18.00 (Tr. 11 system) surface soil - turf only - very few sherds - about 3 handfuls, and about 1/2 bucket tiles which I have thrown out. No other finds. Removed also 2nd strat. s.e. portico, E 20-24 plus, SE Bldg., 2037-2, dark loose soil. With many rough stones averaging not more than double fist size - about 1/5 of a bucket sherds and about 2 buckets of tiles which I am stacking at E 21.00 near fence to south. Found here also frags. broncer type XXVIII lamp F 1311. No other finds.

<u>Page 2168</u> <u>12 June 50 (Monday).</u> Removed Tr. 11 (SE Bldg) E 20-32, S 0-11.30 N 0-2, strat. 1, not much more than turf removed - just enough soil to show upper debris immediately under modern ground level. Loose dark soil. From E 20-22 a little more surface soil was removed than elsewhere in this area. About 1/4 bucket sherds only, one glass

placed in small box F 1312 and few lamp frags. of Bronner XXVIII, F 1313. About 3 buckets of tiles which I am stacking up at E 19.50, S 4.00. No other finds. Removed SE Bldg. north portico, E 16-22, 2161-2, debris of rough stones, light brown loose soil, stones considerably larger than those in stratum 1, for which see p. 2152 (Diary). Removed over 1/2 bucket sherds, and about 1 wheelbarrow load of tiles which I am stacking up in court at 19.50 E & 6 S. Removed from sieve, portico of room 1, S.E. Bldg., 2043-4, about 3 handfuls of sherds and frag. discus of Roman lamp F 1314. No other finds from sieve. Removed from sieve SE Bldg. court, E 14-20, S 11.00-11.30, 00-0.25 m. below top of south stylobate. about 1/3 bucket of sherds, few nondescript glass frags. (thrown out) and 4 coins F 1315-18.

<u>Page 2176</u> Removed SE Bldg., room 4, 2027-3, 2033-3, stratum between what were two ground levels although not proper floors - loose light brown slightly reddish soil with few stones only, a few worked blocks I have placed on south wall near s.w. corner and on west wall near same corner. About 1 1/2 bucket sherds and 1 wheelbarrow load of tiles which I am stacking up ak on south wall at s.e. corner. From here came F 1319-25. 2 nondescript iron frags. thrown out. Removed SE Bldg., S. 14.50-18.00 E 20-24 (s. of s. portico) surface soil - little more than turf, loose dull brown soil, few stones, small rough ones only. 1/8 bag sherds and a bout 1/2 bucket of tiles which I am placing on wall at E 24.00 S 16.90. See 2031-1(b). Am numbering this area room 7. 1(c) is turf only (surface). Removed also E 24-30 room 8, 2045-1(b) surface soil under turf (a), about 3/4 bucket of sherds and … continues
