Diary [illegible] [bold: 6 June 50.] Removed Temple A, w. cella, e. aisle, 2021-4, N 5-10, about the same stratum as 2021-3 but slightly darker, and with more stones for which see Film 142-15. Very sandy. About [fraction: 1/4] bucket of sherds and [fraction: 1/4] bucket of tiles which I am placing in a bag to be washed & stored with sherds. Removed also same aisle N 10-12 strat. 2021-4, unlike strat. from N 5-10 in that it contains no sand at all and it is also somewhat darker, and with few stones - quite a different character of fill. Rather loose. About 1/6 bucket sherds and no tiles whatsoever. See Film 142-16. Sieved N 5-10, same aisle, removing about 1/10 bucket sherds and one coin 1169. F 1193. Sieved also N 10-13, 2021-3, 2023-3, about [fraction: 1/4] bucket of sherds, no tiles, and a frag. of what may be a lamp F 1194. Sieved N 10-12, 2021-4, 2023-4 about 1/12 bucket sherds only - no tiles.
Removed from SE Bldg. south portico, E 7-12, 2035-3, about 1/10 bucket of sherds, and about 2 buckets of tiles. Still a little to be removed from the area under some fallen worked blocks. Placing tiles near fence at E 10.00. From here came F 1195-7 incl. Also F 1198
[bold: 7 June 50.] Removing pottery from cistern 4 (leading from Room 3 of SE Bldg. - Bay 1) into bags. If bag contains only sherds that seem to belong to same pot it will receive an F number; otherwise a bag number beginning with Bag 1. Bay 1 of the cistern is in the bay leading from the n.w. corner of the room where the bedrock floor of the room collapsed into the cistern (in antiquity). I am measuring the depth from the bedrock floor, where intact by the opening, down. Loose fill, mainly somewhat reddish with rough stones for which see Film 140-4. Also
a few worked blocks. From depth 0-2.21.00 have removed [underlined: Bags 1-17 incl.], roughly 6 wheelbarrow loads. Bag 15 contains red wares and a box of black glazed sherds inside. Bag 16 contains 2 incomplete small thin fabric vases. Bag 17 contains frags. of pitharia. Have also removed 3 wheelbarrow loads of roof tiles which I am stacking up on foundation of east stylobate of SE Bldg. court on base line of Trench 11 00 NS. Most of the sherds come from about depth of 0-0.90 m. below bedrock floor of room 3; there were comparatively few at from 0.90 - [bold: 1.00]. Same applies to tiles and stones. Some pipe frags. have been placed on top of tile stack. Have sieved this fill from cistern and removed about a wheelbarrow load of small sherds Bag 18 and some tile frags.- about 5 which I have thrown out. From sieve came also F 1202-17 (all coins) & F 1218-24.

Removed also from cistern 4, Bay 1 F 1225-1256 including coins & lamps. These numbers were found in cistern (not in sieve). Found also few frags (4) of egg shell - not quite [fraction: 1/4] an egg (hen's egg) at depth 0.84 - thrown out. The fill of the cistern, Bay 1, consisted of ancient dump. See above - that is, so far - 0-1.00 m. below bedrock forming floor of room 3 SE Bldg. The point on the bedrock from which all finds were measured (their depth) is at 2.22 m. below spot "y". Also F 1310.
[bold: 8 June 50.] Removed strat. 5, room 3, SE Bldg., some days ago - all but section near north wall of room. This strat. contained unlike 4 no stones - compact dull brown soil. See 1887-5. About 3/4 bucket of sherds exclusive of those removed with broken pots, and given a find number. Nearly 2 buckets of tiles which I have placed against north wall of room on bedrock. From 5, or finds from 4 and 5,
or finds lying on 5 (1887-5) were F 1257-1262 incl.; 1264-1273 incl., 1276- 1283. About 3/4 of an egg shell (hen's egg) thrown out. F 1286 also came from here. As I write a bit of rock from the bedrock floor of room 3 has caved into another cistern or cave below leaving a round hole in the floor.
