… sherds and box bones placed in sherd bag.
Removed from N 5-10, 2021-3, dark sandy soil with great many stones, all rough ones, for which see Film 142. Some places between 5 & 6 N there were deposits of clean sand. About 3/4 bucket of sherds and about 1/4 bucket of of tiles on west wall at N 5.50. From here also come 2 frags. stone cornice F 1153, and coin F 1154.
Removed also same aisle N 10-13, much like N 5-10 but slightly darker - also sandy soil with many stones for which see Film 142-17. Removed nearly a bucket of sherds, and lamp frag. F 1155. No tiles or other finds. See Film 142-10.
Page 2098 5 June 50. Removed SE Bldg., room 4, bottom of 2037-2 and 2033-2 - same as rest of 2027-2, for which see p. 2028 (Diary) - about 2 buckets of sherds, and about 2 buckets tiles which I am placing opposite entrance to Guard House by fence just east of other tiles from this stratum. Removed from bottom this strat. (all debris) F 1156-1181 incl. The bottom of 2027-2 & 2033-2 does not appear to have been constructed as a floor but it does seem to have served as one - at least most of it - during last period of use of this room. A real floor - or floor foundation containing small blue pebbles has been found at level of 0.13 m. below top of threshold which is 1.40 m. below spot "y" (top of S. moulded orthostate of pedestal in room 2). Strat. 3 lies immediately over this earlier floor level. See Film 142-14.
Page 2100 Removed from SE Bldg., room 5, 2027-2, loose reddish soil with fair quantity rough stones - no worked blocks - about 3/4 bucket sherds, and 1/2 bucket tiles which I am placing on S. wall at 7.50 east (Tr. 11 system). From here came F 1182 and 1183.
Removed also same room E 6-8, 2027-3, a little darker strat. than 2, otherwise much the same. About 1/2 bucket sherds and over 1 bucket tiles which I am placing immediately to east of those from 2 on south wall of room. From here came also F 1184, and F 1185, a much earlier type lamp than Bronceer XXVIII - hence we appear to be in an earlier fill than 2027-2 (which was all seemingly debris).
Removed also same room 2029-2, E 8-12, loose reddish soil with rough stones - some large, ranging from fist to slightly larger than notebook size - about the same as from E 6-8. About 1/10 bucket sherds, 9 tile frags., and 1 piece water pipe. Placing tiles and pipe
Page 2102 frags. on south wall at E 10.00. No other finds.
Removed same room E 8-12, 2029-3, like 2 but with smaller stones, few larger than double fist size. About 1/10 bucket sherds. No other finds, save tiles - 9 small frags - which I am placing at E 11.00 on south wall.
Removed tiles from E 8-10 2029-2 separately, about 3 buckets, and placed them on S. wall at about E 8.50.
Removed from S.W. corner SE Bldg. portico, 2033-2, E 7-10 (Tr. 11 system), about 1/10 bucket sherds and over 1 bucket tiles from lower debris; loose reddish soil, fallen worked blocks, door jambs, pier with engaged column etc. - see draughtsman's plan drawing & his catalogue of architectural fragments. No other finds. At E 6-7 near door to room 4, among fallen jambs removed 1/10 bucket sherds and 1 1/2 bucket tiles which I am placing by fence at E 7.00 together with tiles from E 7-10
F 1198 )\nsee p.2160)\nF1326-28Page 2104 also from south portico (see above, p. 2102) - about another 1 1/2 buckets placed just east of those from 7-10.
Removed from south portico SE Bldg., E 10-20, 2035-3, 2037-3, same as 2, many rough stones, all appears to be debris down to bottom of 3 - one bucket of sherds; about 2 1/2 buckets of tiles which I am placing near fence to south at E 15.00. From here come box lamp frags. F 1186, all appear to be Broncer type XXVIII, box glass F 1187, F 1188, coin 1189, bronze myrtle leaf F 1191.
Removed from S. portico also E 19-20, 2037-3, same strat. as E [illegible], 10-19, about 1/3 to 1/2 bucket tiles [handwritten: and 1/3 sherd bucket] F 1113-4, F 1190, 1192. Placing tiles at 19.00 E immediately S. of stylobate.
