… same as 1, removed together. For top of strat. 3 (1941-3) before removing see Film 139-29. Removed Temp. A, e. cella, e. side, north to 1-3, 1907-1(a) loose dull brown soil, many rough stones for which see Film 139-31, 1/4 bucket sherds, 5 small nondescript tile frags - thrown out - no other finds. Removed also 1(b) like 1(c) same quantity in proportion & type stones, about one bucket sherds; no tiles, no other finds. % 1(c) & 1(b) all fill below floor level. For sieve see P. 2066. b? Removed SE Bldg., room 1 (Tr. 11) E 0-6; S 4-12, 1685-2(g) and 1687-2(b) reddish loose soil with many rough stones & some worked blocks none of which have removed. Removed here only rough stones. Strat. 1 here was non-existent - all the soil being reddish from Page 1980 the modern ground level down. 1685-1 and 2a & 2b are all the same, as is 1687-1, 2a and 2(b), all debris. Much of 3, however, also debris, fell in a more orderly way, so that many of the stones in the fallen walls still have the same relative position as they had before the walls fell. Sherds from 2(b) & 2 c have already been removed. Removed from 2(b), room 1, S 4-12, E 0-6, 1/2 bucket sherds and pile of tiles measuring 40 × 40 × 44 which I have stacked up at E. 13, S 6.50, in court. F 1024 was found on 2(b). No other finds, save shallow bowl F 1080 and F 1079.

Temple A, east cella, center, w. half removed 1969-1, dull brown earth, many rough stones for which see Film 140-5, loose fill, all below floor level. Removed about 1/2 bucket of sherds, and 1/3 bucket of tiles which I have placed on the west wall of center at 9.00 m. north. No other finds. Removed also same place 1969-2 loose reddish soil with great quantity of rough stones for which see Film 140-6; about 2 buckets of sherds, but no tiles whatsoever, frags. of saucer type lamp (F 1090) with pinched lip, moulded glass F 1091, and Cypriot inscription F 1092 (I 131). A few very small nondescript bronze frags. thrown out. Am sieving both 1969-1 and 2. From sieve 1961-1 removed sherds & animal bones only, F 1093 (bones). Also from sieve 1969-2 sherds animal bones, F 1094), moulded glass frag. which I have placed with F 1091, and bronze arrow head(?) F 1095. Page 1984 Removed Temp. A, e. cella, center, w. half, 1969-3, N 5-11, dark grayish soil, small stones only, for which see Film 140-18, loose soil - very loose - about 1 bucket, no tiles whatsoever, one lamp frag. in terracotta of early saucer type with pinched lip F 1096. Sieving all of this stratum also. Sherds from sieve will be in separate bags. Removed 1969-4, very red-orange soil over bedrock, fairly loose soil, good quantity of rough stones for which see Film 140-31, about 1/3 bucket of sherds, no tiles, no other finds. For North 1-2 see diary p. 1702 & 3 and section p. 1707. For North 2-5 see plan p. 6-8 (Tr. 1) dug before war (Notebook I). Removed from sieve 1963-3, N 5-11, 1/3 bucket sherds, ter. lamp F 1132, and box of bones - placed in sherd bag, and frag. figurine placed w. sherds. Cont. for this area p. 1058 (sic: 2058??) Diary vol. XI, p. 2010 25 May 50. Removed Temple A, west of temple, room 2, 1939-8, dull light brown soil, loose, with many rough stones for which see Film 140-32; about 3/4 bucket of sherds, 6 small tile frags. which I am placing on s.w. corner on wall of room; one ter. lamp frag., saucer type, F 1097, and some water pipe frags, F 1098. Judging from unwashed sherds this appears to have been a much earlier stratum than the ones above it. For top of 1939-9 see Film140-27
