… stones, hardly any tiles. The top of this fill was the floor level of the porch before the large step was placed in over the east threshold from the court. Before this step was placed here the stone blocks under the plinths for the columns served as the plinths. Unlike the later plinths they correspond fairly closely. These lower plinths lay on a ground level at the bottom of p. 1659-3. The top of an early wall lies under this fill. It has another orientation than that of the walls of the porch and so antedates the floors belonging to the early and later plinths. We have know here so far then 3 ground levels. 1. That going with the late step and upper plinths. 2. that going with the plinths that were later covered by stone plinths and which were placed in over the floor that had the early plinths 2. That going with the lower plinths. 3. The ground level which served as a foundation for the early plinths and which was approx. level with the top of the early demolished wall.

See Film 132-21 & 22.

In 1659-3 fill between ground level gamma and zeta found today coin F 831 directly on zeta, also F 832-35 incl. on zeta. [margin left: [handwritten: 75 mm\ silver/ Coin 1\ Ptol. X\ F 825]]

13 April.Dug Temple A, east cella, north 0-2, center, down to depth of 1.53 below top of large south stairway. The first strat. (.38 - 0.80 m. below stairway) fill consisting of loose light reddish soil, very few tiles, about 1/12 of a tin in area 2.40 x 2.00 x 0.42. About 3/4 tin of sherds. Strat. 2 0.80 - 1.10 below top of stairway much the same but with reddish soil. About 1/8 tin tiles in area 2.00 x 2.00 x 0.30. About 1/3 tin of sherds. The 3rd strat. was very dark but otherwise also much the same - depth 1.10 - 1.53 below top of large stairway. Very few tiles in area 2.00 x 2.00 x 0.43 - about 1/15 of tin, but a full tin of sherds. See p. 1707-1, 2 and 3.

In west wall of east cella center, placed two large upper blocks more securely on wall. See Film 132-14 and 15, and Arch. blocks nos. 191 and 222 (This was done yesterday).

In Propylon porch extended excavations 0-2 m. west of porch removing turf grown here since the war. Before war some surface soil had been removed. The turf was approx. at the late ground level of p. 1659-x or a little below it. I have taken the level and I see now that the turf is at approx. the level of 1659-y, the earlier floor level, and not of the late floor level. Began removing p. 1659-3 (between y and z) 0-2 m. west of porch, reddish brown loose soil with rough stones - not many - mostly smaller than fist size.

[page number: Page\ 1706] In Temple, E. cella, center, north 4.00-17.00, digging down from depth of 0.30 m. below bottom of orthostates in fill thrown in to serve as foundation for floor (p. 1709-1), north of 10 m. north this is a hard whitish fill; but south of this it is reddish and loose. The hard whitish fill consists of clean chavara - without earth, stones, or tiles and only very few sherds. It was deliberately strewn probably to serve as a foundation for a floor. It is possible that this floor may antedate the present building. There is an intrusive pit at 11.00 north on the west side of the cella center which I am beginning to dig out before continuing with 1711-2 & 1709-2.

14 April50. Finished removing upper debris under old wheelbarrow track in Room 4, W. of Temple A. Dark loose soil with debris of rough stones, some as large as 0.50 cm. (greatest dim.) and a great many as large as 0.20 m. (gr. dim. Began removing tiles from lower debris over the floor - in reddish earth containing also many rough stones similar in size. See p. 1671-2 and Film 132. Removing tiles at bottom of 1671-1 on 2; those in north half of room and placing on north end of south wall; those in south half at 1.60 m. from south end of north wall, on wall (cont. p. 1710).

N. of Temple A, E. cella, threshhold in n. wall, removed p. 1681-2 from 2.75 - 3.87 east of cistern 2 and 0-1.00 n. of n. wall of temple. Loose brown soil, few stones, only small rough ones. About 1/10 of tin of tiles in area 1.00 x 1.15 x 0.23. About
