24 May 1949 Continued trench 9 as above. Continued removing fill under late pavement in southwest end of room 4, praefurnium. Straining earth from cistern. Continuing to dig outside southeast corner of temple B precinct, many rough stones in mound, loose darké gray soil. Digging between parallel walls here leading toward bath from corner of precinct. Dug cistern out to depth of 3.90 m. from top of coping. Removing fill under late rough pavement at west end of praefurnium (room 4) section page 1393-3 and 4. All light reddish brown soil, many stones of varying size, rough ones only, save at level of pavement (forming part of it) and with the exception of two very large blocks in center which probably fell from walls. Worked stones forming part of pavement being stored just north of northwest corner of bath precinct. All worked blocks forming part of pavement were drawn by Christofis, who took their levels at the time. See film 125-2, 4, 5, 6, and 7. Removing debris of stones west of bath west precinct wall, opposite room 4 (west of it) just west of collapsed cave. See film 125-8. Worked blocks being placed on wall west of collapsed cave. In room 3, hypocaust, Mekmet removed page 1289-1, 1.08-1.94 m. east of west face of pillars supporting west edge of floor. Found some tiles, lime plaster, and

I am calling this compartment A. See section page 1289. Two tile fragments from this stratum. 1 22 X 7 X3 cm. 5 cm. above floor about 8 cm. from most northern pillar. Another tile fragment (probably a panel) just east of it between four pillars of compartment A also 0.05 m. above the floor. Measures .25 x .30 x 0.021. Stratum 3 here is pitch black. A natural accumulation during period of use. Removed another tile fragment measuring .17 x . ? m. (one side intact) between pillars 1 and 2 (see plan page 1397). Greatest height from the floor 0.15; minimum distance
Page 1402 from floor, 0.44 m. (end lying west) was found 0.05 m. from east wall, 0.04 m. from pillar 2, and 0.11 from pillar 1 in dull gray brown soil. Mustafas and Mekmet saying there are ashes in it.
Page 1404 Dug cistern to depth 4.17 m. Found lamp, Broneer type XXII at 4.14 (F blank ). See page 1369-5. Fill remains about same but rough stones averaging somewhat larger in size in 1369-5 than in 1369-2, 3 and 4. Continued removing rough stones between parallel walls at southeast corner of temple B precinct. See film 125-11 and 12. Dug out stratum 3 and 4 at west end of room 4, praefurnium (page 1393-3,4).
