pottery in quantity on floor, few tiles on east side, very few on west. See yesterday's diary. Stratum 3, east side contained brown soil - rather light brown - hard in places - soft elsewhere - no gypsum as in stratum 2 - few tiles, fair number sherds - very little glass. Removing lower debris in room 8, bath, west end, page 1283-3. Typical kind of debris - light brown buff soil, a good deal of decomposed chavara - stones of varying size - some rough - some worked - a few stored on west wall - others going to construction pile. Relatively few rough blocks compared to worked ones. Few small rough stones only. Very few tiles - surprisingly few. Began removing bath.

Removing debris west of bath between walls on either side of trench 9, iota, (west bath precinct) section page 1275 - stratum 2 - reddish light brown loose soil - rough stones of varying size - most of worked stones being stored on west bath precinct wall.

See also section (for north end of west precinct) page 1267-3, reddish light brown soil, rough stones of varying size, worked blocks being placed here also on west wall - soft stratum.
