April 29Removed large stone blocks from west wall of Street 1 near Temple B. See Film 37a Nos. 21, 22. Continued clearing court of Propyleion - fill of small stones, earth, pieces of plaster from walls. See Film 30, No. 22. Found Coin 351 p. 478. See note on coins p. 478. Find that pieces of plaster revetment fallen from walls are found also just over rock. Area being dug is threshhold to 3 m.

east. Number of large hunks of lime and concrete coming out of fill over rock. This area appears to have only the stratum between rock and floor - a few mm. over rock if it is a floor and the soil. Very few sherds found in stratum over rock, mostly all tiles of the usual type.
May 1Continued removing fallen stones from street 1 Temple B end, and continued digging in court of Propyleion. Film 37. Note part of fallen wall in Film 37, no. 28, 31, over rock - loose reddish soil. No plaster or concrete found here or in vicinity of threshold to west.
May 2Continued clearing north end of street 1 of fallen blocks and stones.

Continued digging fill over rock in Propyleion court and trying to find trace of floor. Removed second stratum under probably upper late floor of west section Room 1 of South Building. See note on Film 37, no. 29. Digging [handwritten: thin] fill in 2 strata to make sure of getting sealed stratum between 2 floors. First 20 cm. finds segregated from finds near lower floor. Theta- Iota. Rather large deposit of lime concrete found up against and level with threshhold of Propyleion. Note that good number of late ribbed wares found in vicinity of Propyleion stairway.

Finished 3rd stratum p. 499 and dug 3 a & 3 b & 4 of p. 481 cross section. Dug place in north end of Street one that lacks pavement to rock foundation. See film 38, no. 3. May 4Continued digging 3rd stratum S. Bldg. Room 3 west Z-H. See p. 485. and 2nd stratum Propyleion p. 487 southeast section. Also removed debris (1st stratum) in northeast corner of Propyleion and in Room 3 of West Bldg over [handwritten: ruin] floor. Film 38, 21, 23-25 incl. For last few days about 6 to 10 men have been cleaning building of nettles, [handwritten: ruins] grass, etc. Pay ordinary workmen 14 p. Complaining today hours (8½) too long for Apollo on account of distance from Episkopi. Also complaining 5 day week too little.
