197. (continued), the editions followed the manuscripts and preserved [handwritten: ὑπηνεμοι] until corrected by [handwritten: L. Dindorf, edition of J.de Arnim, Vol. II, (Berlin,1896)] [handwritten: p.265], In the light of this evidence, [handwritten: ὑπηνεμον] or 'sheltered from the wind.' There is another meaning for [handwritten: ὑπηνεμον] which [handwritten: may possibly have fitted] in with the preceding lines-[handwritten: possibly] xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 'windy' (Aratus 839), 'swift as the wind' xxxxxxxxxxx (Plutarch, Sertorius, 12) and 'wind-born' (Theocritus 5,115).

198. From the xxx preserved letters, ρυχιν, the word to be restored is almost certainly βρυχιν or more probably ὑπoβρυχιν. If there be no syllable before the ρho and if ρho was the letter as seems highly probable, then the word must almost certainly be some form of βρυχιν, for no other vowel or constant placed before ρυχιν produces any xxxxx recognizable Greek word. [handwritten: Ex Βρυχία, in] occurs in Aeschylus, Persae, 397, and Prometheus, 1082. A form περι-βρυχίοισιν is found in Sophocles, Antigone, 336. The most more usual form is ὑποβρυχίος. This form was often used of a sinking or submerged ship. In the Homeric Hymn to Castor and Pollux, the lines 11 and 14 read as follows,
