(9) 46.49 m. to 56.60 m. from the top of course 1 at level -2.22 to level -1.42 m. is large enough to have served to drain water from the floor of alley 2 to the area south of the building (Elevation fig. ). From 25.13 m. east the worked blocks are unevenly placed with reference to the faces of the course and do not project as far south as the south face. The two faces of this course can be seen in the plan (fig. 2) under course 3 above it which here is the topmost extant course. From 28.00 m. east to 45.88 m. east and from 00.00 m. east to the southeast corner course 2 is the topmost extant course as far as the southeast corner. For its character here one is referred to the plan. The original height of the top of course 3 at the southwest corner was -0.04 m. and at the east end of the extant course (at 28.80 m. east) it was -0.13 m. The three most easterly blocks were found in very poor condition and so were removed in the reconstruction and so were not replaced in the reconstruction. The original height of the course where extant is approximately 0.52 m. throughout. At the end of alley 4 in the south wall from 11.20 m. to 11.29 m. east of the southwest corner there is a gap of 0.08 m. between two blocks in course 3. This is filled with rubble but it is large enough to have served to drain water to the area south of the building (elevation fig. 19). No remains of any course above course 3 remain in situ. As very few worked blocks occured in the debris in the vicinity, it is very probable that the south wall above course 3 consisted of rough masonry much like that of the north wall (see p. ) and the east and west walls of the five exedrae ( p. ) which at this level consist of rough masonry only.
