The East Wall.

The east wall, where [handwritten: cleared] examined, is founded on bedrock [handwritten: Sections & Figs] and [handwritten: Diagram, fig.72]. The foundation course is in rubble with stones ranging from fist to foot in size. At 1.00m north of the south face of the south wall, it is at level [handwritten: -2.32]; at 10.75m [handwritten: north] top of it is at -2.32; at 10.75m north it is at level -2.36m. At [handwritten: Beyond] [handwritten: to Lecorce] this point the height of the foundation changes abruptly. At 10.78m it is at level -1.85m. The difference in height at this point is equal to the height of the first course in the wall of 0.51m. This course accordingly extends from the southeast corner to 10.75m. The top of the foundation course from 12.78m north to the n.e. corner remains at approximately the same level of -1.85m. (see sections).

Handwritten: Course 1

The first course consists of large ashlar blocks from 1.08m to 1.40m in length. Their width comprises the width of the wall of approximately 0.49m at this level. The height of the course averages between 0.52m and 0.57m, the top maintaining a level of approximately -1.82m. The intertices are often uneven with occasional pockets which are filled in with chips and small stones. This course, as stated above, ends at 10.75m north where it is interrupted by the abrupt increase in height in the foundation course.

Course 2, which rest on the foundation course north of 10.78m north is also composed of ashlar blocks which average between 0.85m and 1.44m in length. The width and general character of the course is similar to course one. At 3.00m north, the top of the course is at -1.27m. At 10.75m it is at level -1.25m and it maintains this level with slight variations to the northeast corner.
