0.92 m. but the rubble wall where examined below this level averages some 0.18 m. more. The east face of the west stylobate wall projects just below the orthostates at some points as much as 0.20 m. The extent top of an early wall at the north end of the west stylobate served as a paving block at the foot of an orthostate here at level -0.21 m. (plan, fig. Film 168-28). The orthostates here rest on chips wedged in between them and the top of the early wall. It was not possible for the pavement wherever the stylobate wall projects at this level. Now a good quantity of decomposed lime concrete with blue pebbles up to 0.03 m. in length occur in many places at the level of the bottom of the orthostate where the wall does project. This doubtless was used to fill in the space between the edge of the pavement and the irregular rubble outline of the wall at this level. As will be seen from the diagram the levels of the base of the orthostate vary little except at the north and south ends of the stylobate. At the south end of the east stylobate wall it is as low as -0.47 m. which is 0.05 m. lower than the orthostates in the south wall and in the south end of the west stylobate wall. At the north end it is only -0.21 m. but the top of the orthostate here is approximately at the same level as the top of the course elsewhere except at the south ends of the east and west stylobate walls where it is at plus 0.16 m. and 0.15 m. respectively[handwritten: ly.] The course is preserved to its full height everywhere except in the south stylobate wall where the original top of one block alone is extant at level plus 0.13 m. On the east stylobate seven consecutive blocks of the course of plinth is preserved where as on the east wall there is but one. The level of the top of this course where extent does not not vary more than 0.02 m. and accordingly the stylobate here does not appear to have had any slope as it did in exedra 3. The average level
