Conclusions.

Clearly the floor to north and south of the threshold block, and the intervening wall are contemporanious and date to a later period than that of the construction of the west stylobate [handwritten: wall].

The floor seem much too low for the stylobate; and the stairway, too narrow to have accomodated the threshold block, for all of these to have formed part of a single design. As the lime concrete floor cannot be earlier than the stylobate and stairway which it covers we conclude that it is a later modification of the original plan. The original floor very likely was at approximately that of the west platform. If we take the level of the plinths at 14.50m. north on the west stylobate wall of plus 0.330 m. and add 0.014 m. for the slope of the stylobate and 0.20 m. more for the height of the coping blocks [handwritten: of] we have a level of 0.544 m. for the top that course. If the floor was 0.035 m. below that we obtain the level of 0.59 m. This could be reached by adding 2 more stps to our stairway each 0.19 m. height.

The stylobate walls of exedra 4.

The west face of the east stylobate wall has been cleared from 8.05 m. to 10.15 m. north of the south face of the south wall down to bedrock at a maximum depth of level -1.85 m. (Film 168 - ). The east face of the west stylobate wall has been cleared from 2.40 m. to 5.70 m. north to bedrock at the maximum depth of level -1.98 m.(Film 168 - ) and from 15.10 to 15.40 m. north where the bedrock is only at level -0.89 m. The north end of the wall here is founded on an earlier wall (plan, fig. Film 168- ). These stylobate walls are like those of exedrae 1,2 and 3, and reach down wherever cleared to bedrock.

The thickness of the walls at the level of the orthostates is approximately [illegible]
