to bedrock at level -1.72 m. this east arm of the east stylobate wall is not bonded into the east stylobate wall but the two walls are consistently bonded above that level (Film 154 nos.18,19, Film 155 no.15 and 25.) Two steps of the stairway leading to the platform are extant (plan, fig. and Film 152 nos. 36 & 37). The lower step lies between the east wall and the east end of a missing orthostate. Its north rizer is approximately 0.14 m. behind the north face of the wall. The top of the wall here infront of the step is approximately at the same level as the paved floor still extent, between this wall and the north wall of the building. This level is -0.17 m. The height of the lower step is 0.26 m. and of the second step 0.24 m [handwritten: the] top of which brings us to level +0.33 m. If we restore a third step 0.21 m. in height it brings us to level +0.54 m. Now the level of the course of plinths at 13.00 m. north is +0.34 m. and the height of the coping blocks for the platform behind was approximately o.20 which would bring the top of these blocks to level 0.54 m. to make alowance for the grade it brings us to level 0.574 m. or 0.034 m. higher than our restored step. Inasmuch as the floor was a little below the top of the coping blocks this may be very close to being right. The rubble foundation of that part of the stairway extending south of the wall reaches down to level -0.19 m. where it is founded on a stratum of compact reddish brown soil (Film 154 nos. 15 & 16)

The top of the course which supports the orthostates between the end of the course of orthostates and the west wall of the exedra serves as a very low first step in a stairway here at level 0 .10 m. or only 0.04 m. above the paved floor. It consists almost entirely of a single block which does not, however, extend as far as the west wall but stops 0.07 m. short of it. Here there is a roughly cut stone at
