Stylobate wall of exedra I.
The east face of this wall have been cleared to level -2.18 m. from the southeast corner of the stylobate to 10.75 m. north of the south face of the south wall. North of this point the wall is founded on an earlier wall at level -1.96 m. as far as the north wall (Film 168-8). The inside face is cleared to the foundation of the paved floor at level -0.51 m. the floor itself here not being extant. The south face of the arm has been cleared to level -2.18 m. from the southeast corner to a point 3.90 m. west of it. From here to the southwest corner it has been cleared to level -1.24 m. The west face of the west stylobate wall has been cleared to the same level from the southwest corner to 5.60 m. north of the south face of the south wall of the building. From 10.10 m. to 13.10 m. the west face has been cleared to bedrock at level -2.39 m. (Section [handwritten: ?] ). The wall from bedrock for this lineal distance to level -1.07 m. appears to have been constructed by casting rough stones into a footing trench. Above this level the wall also in rubble but it has a proper face and it is clear that the mason saw the face of the wall that he was building. Wherever examined elsewhere the wall has a fairly consistent face. The stones with few exceptions, range between fist and foot in size and the wall from bedrock to the top of the stylobate maintains a fairly consistent thickness 0.92 m. At the southeast and southwest corner, the wall is strengthened by a number of roughly worked blocks doubtless to support the columns which stood immediately above on the corners of the stylobate. The east stylobate wall is preserved to a maximum leigth of 0.26 m. The west stylobate wall however is preserved to the original top of an orthostate at level +0.34 m. (section, fig. ) An interesting feature in this
