Course 3 is likewise composed of ashlar blocks measuring from 0.90m to 1.35m in length. It is not extant from 0.00m to 3.10m north of the s.e.corner. The width and general character of the wall is similar to courses 1 and 2. The top of the course maintains a level of approximately -0.70m throughout.

Course 4 is extant only from 10.50m to 13.68m north and in part from 14.35m to 16.60m north. It consists of roughly dressed stones measuring from 0.60m to 1.33m in length. The intertices are very uneven, and the pockets are filled in with chips and small stones. Some of the blocks do not extend through the thickness of the wall, as can be seen in the plan. The top of the course maintains an approximate level of -0.50m. The height of the course, accordingly, averages about 0.20m. It is the topmost extant course in the east wall.

The south end of the wall is not bonded into the south wall but from bedrock to its extant top terminates. against its north face. Similarly the north end terminates everywhere against the south face of the north wall but here it extends within the foundation of this wall. The last ashlar block in course 3 at the north end moreover, is founded on a stone which forms part of the foundation of the extension of the north wall to the Southeast Building to serve as the back wall of the portico here (Film 167-23)
