June 20, 1983Dear Ellen:
I know that pressure has been put on you about the Lapithos publication by both Vassos and Bob Dyson. I know that you have been distressed about it and I am sorry. You will be glad to know that this letter is not to bother you about that, at least for the present year, 1983. However, I did see your letter to Bob. Actually, I knew nothing of what Alan Cook said to you about Lapithos. He really did not have any business to say what he did. We are still under obligation to publish the whole thing. The cost of the publication is not your concern: all you have to do is produce the mss. in acceptable form on the lines of the changes suggested by us, ie. primarily those of E. Kohler.
At this juncture I would like to be informed about the other Cypriote publication you undertook, that of pieces in our own Med. Section, not from our excavations. The last I heard from you you expected to have it finished by the end of 1982. What do you think about it now?
For this publication we had on the books a total of 1358.00 for your final photography. The Director has now informed me that he has slashed this fund along with my budgets for other Cyprus publications. However, if you felt that there was any chance of your being ready for final photography before Dec. 31, 1983, I might try to make representations accordingly.
Best greetings,
G. Roger Edwards
