October 1, 1979Dr. G. Roger Edwards, Classical Archaeology Group, University Museum, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pa. 19104 U.S.A.

Dear Dr. Edwards,

With my sabbatical leave less than a year away I am allocating more of my limited "free time" to my preparations to resume work on the Eustolios complex mosaics manuscript. My draughtsman, Angus Burbridge, has requested payment for the drawings that he has executed. Therefore, I would appreciate it if you would have the Museum issue a cheque to him for US $600 and to send it to him at:

57B Mycenae Road, Blackheath, London SE3, England.

On another aspect of my grant for 1979/80, how do I go about receiving the remaining $2150? Would it be easier to give it to me in one lump sum this spring before I leave for Greece/Cyprus or would I have to furnish receipts/documentation for each item of the budget before I could be reimbursed? Please advise as to what the standard procedure is at the Museum for grants.

I would like to remind you at this time as well of the supplementary grant request I made to you in February for $650 to be considered for the 1980/81 Museum budget.

Michaelides is still alive and, alas, interested in the mosaics. I might be able to arrange a meeting with him in Rome next June when I am on my way to Greece. I am anxious to end this matter with him. Ms. Christine Kondoleon will start this fall a stylistic study of Cypriote mosaics for her dissertation and thus is only interested in the Kourion mosaics in a general fashion. After so many years of no obvious interest in this material, the field has certainly become crowded!

I look forward to your replies to my questions.

Best wishes,
