August 28, 1979Dear Roger:

Yes, I have the Ermoyenis notebooks here, in my office for greater security (marked, as is the rest of the Ermoyenis material, as the property of the University of Pennsylvania in case I lose in some confrontation with a Mack truck). There are eleven of them; 8"x 4 1/2", requiring 7 1/2" of shelf-space. I assume that you have the microfilms that I had made for insurance.

We are back at square 1 here. The newly appointed director decided, before the year was out, that he wanted to return to full-time teaching, so we have to repeat the routine of search committee etc. etc. It shows that the museum world has changed more than he realized during his decade of residence abroad!

We've had an unorthodox summer, closing the galleries because of work on the roof (it leaked) and in one of the storerooms. The latter had to be completely emptied, since acetylene torches were used, and is now in apple-pie order. All sorts of other jobs, easier to do without having to think of public hours, have been accomplished, so we feel we have made progress.

I'm off for a brief respite "down East". The Stillwells will be holding the October meeting of "The Club", so I hope to see you in the not too distant future.

All the best to you,
