June 19, 1979Dear Roger:
We should be leaving on July 1 for Romania and Bulgaria for three months or more and don't expect to be back here before late October, so want to get the Bamboula ms. off to you before we leave.
Since I typed the ms. in Jerusalem on flimsy paper in order to keep down the weight, and since there have been some additions and minor changes since you got the last copy, I have had the whole ms. xeroxed and send the xeroxes. I know that the editors would not like to work on flimsy. It was not possible for me to type the whole thing again, and I have no one to do it for me, so I have sent it to you with additions and subtractions, not a clean copy as I would have liked. However, I believe that all is quite clear and there should be no problems - at least I hope so.
As for the photographic illustration, I am sending the 61 photos along with the ms. and the plans separately. In several instances where you sent me enlargements made by your photo lab., they were too dark; in fact, they were all somewhat too dark, but I thought that most of them could be used. In those instances where I thought they could not be used, I have stapled to the enlarged photo the contact print, which shows the values that I would like to have in the enlargement. In most instances its a matter of the shadows being too black. Perhaps new prints could be made that would be more like the contact prints and would show walls in shadow, etc. I have trimmed the enlargement to indicate what I want shown in the photo in each case.
With 1 exception nothing can be done about phots. he mentions. The others are copy prints of phots. since negatives are missing.

We have made a special crate so the plans could be sent flat rather than rolled up. Each is marked either with its figure no., for those in the text, or the plate no. for the two large plates done either that will probably have to go at the end of the volume. Perhaps since the neg. figures 18a, 18b and 19 can be made fold-outs, so as not to reduce the scale, and the same for the two large plates at the end. Most of the others will fit well on a page, which I assume will be the same size as Benson's Bamboula at Kourion. I have included a list of the photographic illustrations, giving their titles. Many of the drawings have titles on them, or the title is obvious.
I hope I haven't forgotten anything and that work can proceed with what I am sending by United Parcel Service. I'll look forward to galleys when I return!
All our best,
