Dear Roger,

Your letter of 31st October has reached me by hand of a visitor from Athens, but too late to get you an answer today! It is no matter, however, since my reply is in the nature of a "nil" return.

I do not foresee any production expenses on the Kourion Basilica final report falling in the fiscal year 1980-81. I have asked contributors to have their sections ready by the end of December 1980; even if they all make that deadline, coordination, revision and normal editorial processes are not likely to be completed six months later.

Secondly, the happy suggestion that the report could be a joint publication of the Pennsylvania University Museum and Dumbarton Oaks (produced by the former but presumably with financial support from the latter) has not reached the point of formal approval, unless there have been contacts about it between Giles Constable and your Director of which I am not aware. So, even if I could give you all the figures needed for budgetting, it might not be proper for me to do so at this stage.

In a year's time, when the proposal may have become an agreed project, I shall be in a better position to give you a close estimate of pages, plates etc. In the meantime, I am happy to say, Dumbarton Oaks is granting me during the current fiscal year a modest appropriation to cover expenses involved in preparation of the report.

It is good to know that you have a fund to which expenses on photography could be charged. As soon as I have decided which of George McFadden's photographs should be included, I shall ask you to have enlargements made from the negatives in your archives.

We return to Athens, until mid-March, in a week's time.

With kind regards from Elektra and
