October 16, 1978Dr. G. Rodger Edwards, University Museum, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pa. 19104. U.S.A.

Dear Dr. Edwards,

The "Great Northern Silences" have not swallowed me up although a continually over-programmed schedule is making a valiant effort to achieve this goal.

I must apologize for not writing sooner, however nothing much has happened since this past spring. The only concrete information that I have is that my non-communicative draftsman is still at work on the final drawings of the mosaics of the Eustolios complex but has not finished them, alas. I was in Cyprus briefly in July and visited him. His draftings are excellent and most complete, but he is proceeding slowly on them because he is in need of money (which I can not give him at the moment for his work) and so does other drafting jobs instead. Because of this continuing delay, plus the fact that I have allowed myself to be overworked with various projects and responsibilities here, I have not made significant progress on the manuscript. However, it has top priority for the beginning of my sabbatical during the 1980/81 academic year. Another factor is the expense of getting all the material together.

I am very much in hope that the Museum's Board of Managers will be sympathetic to this project and provide generous funds to allow its speedy completion. I can only guestimate the possible costs at this point, but I will try:
