Dear Roger:

Here it is - at least all but Area E! Found a carrier and thought I'd send along what is finished for several reasons. The first was so that you could see what has been done and how. Second, and perhaps more important at the moment was to have a copy in your hands before I began to travel with the original. That way I could be sure the ms. was safe in case anything happened to my luggage. For that reason, I would be most grateful if you would just drop me a line saying you had received the ms. I'll be leaving Jerusalem for Athens on August 13 and would appreciate knowing that the ms. has arrived before that date.

I shall now start on Area E, with hopes that I might even be able to finish it before I fly back to the States from Athens on September 30. That depends on how much I can get done here in the next four weeks, for after that I'll be occupied with a lot of other things as well. I'll try. Now that I've gotten this far, I'd love to get the whole thing off my mind.

The arrival of the photos in Missouri was announced to me after I had left, so the illustrations selected thus far do not include those sent recently. They will be considered later and additions made as seen fitting. You will note that each area has been treated separately as to pagination, footnotes, illustrations; thus they will be interchangeable and the final order can be whatever is wished. I think of the present ms. as being now ready for first editing have the courage to face it, having gotten this far.

I'd be pleased to have your comments, wishes, plans. Meanwhile, I'll be working on Area E, which is the real stinker. I think I now have the courage to face it, having gotten this far.
