April 12, 1978Dear Saul:
This is merely an interim note. You may have heard that I talked to Martin Biddle about the general situation and his policy with regard to the finances of our authors. He also saw your letter of March 25, 1975 (sic!). It all seems to have been a good idea. He is certainly prepared to assist our authors and is also interested in publishing them in some (better, I hope) UM series. He planned to write to you.
The notebooks are in the hands of the secretarial pool (1) and xeroxes will emerge in due course. I am wrestling with the photography in my spare moments. I do not know what will result since there seem to be a great many missing negatives. So perhaps you will be wise, as you said, to work with the photographs you have now. Xeroxes and photographs will be paid for out of Martin's discretionary fund.
I am pleased to have the business of authors' finances on a good basis. All these years since 1953 I have had to find finances and publications outside. It has sometimes been a game but more often a drag.
Yours,
