Dear Mr. Ewing,
Estate of George H. McFadden, deceased.
Thank you for your letter of December 18th, 1953.
The Government of Cyprus have now informed me that they have decided to accept the bequest made to them by Mr. McFadden under the conditions laid down in clause 3 of the Will. I have therefore made the necessary arrangements for the transfer of the house and grounds at Episkopi to the Cyprus Government. For your information copies of the following are enclosed:-
(1)My letter to the Commissioner, Limassol dated 12th October, 1953.
(2)Letter from the Commissioner, Limassol, dated 2nd February, 1954.
(3)My letter to the Chief Clerk, Land Registry Office, Limassol, dated 11th February, 1954.
I should be grateful if the Executors could advise on the following matters:
Mr. McFadden had a current account with the Ottoman Bank, Limassol: the credit balance of which, on the date of Mr. McFadden's death, amounted to L684-8-0, and on 31st December, 1953, after deduction of L1 ledger fees: this money L683-8-0. I would like to know whether I should consider this money as "money on deposit" in Mr. McFadden's name in Cyprus so as to bring it under the provisions of clause 2 of the Will. For your information, the deceased had no other account with the Ottoman Bank or any other Bank in Cyprus, and presumably his account aforesaid is money on deposit bequeathed under his Will.
