April 25, 1951Mr. George H. McFadden Curium Excavations Episkopi, Limassol Cyprus
Dear George:
I was very glad to have your letter and the clipping regarding the Sotira excavations. I find myself much more excited about them, having seen that site east of Limassol, and am awfully glad that Dikaios got around to digging it.
We have got to do some serious talking about the Museum's research in the future and so I hope you will be here in the fall when all the other fellows are in and we can decide definitely where we go from here. One thing is sure, that I am going to get out of Alaska and get into some new field and that I am not going to ride this desk around for the rest of my life.
We are all in a mess here putting on a big temporary exhibition of Franklin to celebrate Churchill's speech. He will be in the Museum to open the show and so this will be big doings, but I am afraid this is all a bit eclipsed by MacArthur's return. His moving speech in the House had all the old ladies weeping like holy rollers at a jam session. It sure reminds you of the return of a Roman general in that he has the whole country in an uproar.
Carl Coon has just made remarkable discovery at Iran of three protohumans who may represent a new genus, lying in Pleistocene gravels. Alden is just back from Mexico. Linton is still moving out Maya monuments, and Rodney's last letter says he just got into another tomb with some gold. Cammann is leaving on Friday for Siam, so things really move along. My best to everybody there and we will look forward to seeing you sometime in June.
Yours,
Froelich Rainey Director
