Episkopi.

27/3/51Dear George,

I think Sotira is going very well and the floors lately cleared are yielding quantities of finds - mendable pots, axeheads, flints etc. And the architecture is something quite new in Cyprus. I doubt if Dikaios can do justice to it in this brief campaign so I feel the area should be kept open and fenced to keep the animals out. I suggest that, as for the Baths-Theatre enclosure, we supply the material and that the labourers employed for erecting it should be charged to the Sotira account.

Dikaios tells me that to cover wages up to the the closing of the work next week (including the erection of the fencing), the subsistence allowances and the small amount of compensation payable to the tenant of the field an additional sum of £70 will be required. Unfortunately I forgot to enquire whether this will cover the cost of transporting the men, tent etc back to Nicosia. So if you wanted to be on the safe side perhaps you had better make it £80.

Hoping to find you still here when I get back in June:

Yours ever Peter.
