6th April, 1951Dr. T.B. Mitford, University of St. Andrews, Scotland.

Dear Bruce:-

Many thanks for yours of March 11th. I was delighted to hear you are planning another "dig" this summer and on a more generous scale. I hope to be here until after you begin work anyway.

We have no more new inscriptions unfortunately as we have been excavating only on a small scale. I have been doing a bit of restoration work on the South Building to make the plan more intelligible to visitors.

We have been digging on the Neolithic site of Sotira during the last three weeks. Dikaios has been doing this for us and he seems particularly well pleased with results. He dates the settlement to about 3500 B.C.

I am almost sure we will be able to let you have some of our men in June as I will not be digging then although another member of our expedition will be excavating at Bamboula during the Summer. We can probably let you have Michali again and one or two more of our better men.

Mr. Hill is not here now but we are expecting him toward the end of the month. I am afraid he will have left by the time you arrive as he is working as executive director of the Fulbright fund in Athens, a job which keeps him pretty busy, worse luck for us.

Yours as ever,
