When Dr Fterakis left for England he asked me to look after the medicine you sent for George. Meanwhile, on 28 September George died. He had been getting weaker in spite of the treatment and while it might have been a happy release for him it is pretty bad luck for his family, a widow and four children, whose only relations seem to be too poor to be of much help. What would you like me to do with the medicine ? Give it to Dr Fterakis on his return to use at his discretion or send it to Dr Howard in Nicosia, or what?
Last Sunday Yacomis, brother of Kinyras, married. My neighbour Andreas won't speak to me. Some time ago my watch was stolen from my sitting room and as it was an expensive one and I had its number I reported it to the Police in case they came across it. About ten days later they searched the houses of all those who were present at the time it disappeared, and they also searched the house of Andrea's brother in Kyrenia (who had been staying with Andrea at the time). I did not ask for these searches as apart from other considerations they were quite futile - in fact I demurred, much to the annoyance of the Police Superintendent in Limassol who seems to have felt that routine must be observed however late in the day. Anyway, although Andreas, as an ex-policeman, knows perfectly well that once a case is reported it is out of the hands of the reporter, he has shown a bitter resentment over the affair.
I don't see much of Nikita nowadays. I was told that he was here last Sunday with two friends, intending to ride, but, on getting your message about who could ride which horses, he returned to town.
I have authorised Mihalli to sell 3000 of your lemons @ 4/- % which seems to be a fair price now. If they stay on the trees he says they will be stolen, in spite of the wire.
That's about all for now.
