EPISKOPI LIMASSOL CYPRUS
23 October 1950
Handwritten: Dear George,
Many thanks for the copy of the Bulletin. I like your article very much and I think the plans have reproduced well. (I have one or two suggestions for the plans for the final publication if you would care to have them when the time comes). Your photo of the hypocaust is almost stereoscopic in its quality. I don't find the widely spaced type of the text very easy to read quickly but, that, I imagine, is not your responsibility. The plan accompanying Deke's article is not easily distinguishable from pavements and the small scale- walls are not easily distinguishable from pavements and the illegibly minute number (blobs) in the theatre area - and the arrows [handwritten: 12] compete in appropriateness with the enormous numbers and arrows of the lion very unfortunate, as publication, is poor and that will be taken in the final publication (but why wait till then?). No doubt more care
(He is going to Curium with Chrisellos to-day. I walked over to Curium with Chrishelios twice a week for English lessons, having passed his "Ordinary" exam) and found Mustafa and Andreas putting up the wire fence there. It was a beautiful day after the rain and we were not the only party collecting snails (the first of the season); not that I eat them! I have not yet incurred any expenditure for the Expedition on water pipe investigations since you left though I have done a few bicycle trips along the Kandou-Sotira section which have proved rewarding. I shan't be able to do much more until the transport situation improves. The work at Kolossi closed down for the time being owing to lack of water.
the ... wet ... Micky has been in the wars lately: first he was sick and now he has broken a leg. The vet set it in plaster but Micky is still poorly.
Michali has planted the Bellapaise "grass". He has been sick too, but managed to get someone he trusts to exercise the horses. I was going to take on the job if he could get no one else suitable, but I was not very keen. Your caladiums are coming on nicely now: at first I think they got too much sun.
when I got your letter about the pointer puppies I found out from the Vet that quarantine was unavoidable but I got on to the Chief Vet in Nicosia and he seems to have heard from you and he said he would deal with the matter on its merits when the dogs arrived. I cancelled the order for the kennel and writing of the paddock when I got your telegram.
