January 12, 1949American Consul Nicosia Cyprus

Dear Mr. Porter:

It is my understanding that all the personal effects of my husband, John Franklin Daniel, were left in your charge by Mr. Edwards and Mr. Young, pending instructions from me as to their disposal. I have not yet received a copy of the inventory, so do not have in mind all the items. I do not, however, wish any of the clothes to be sent to America. Would you please turn them over to Mr. George McFadden or to Mr. Fales for distribution in the village of Episkopi. The same may be done with the luggage itself and the small miscellaneous items including the spectacles.

I would like the camera, together with the films both exposed and unexposed, the ring, the wrist-watch, and the American Express cheques sent to me at the following address:

Mrs. John Franklin Daniel c/o The University Museum 33rd and Spruce Streets Philadelphia 4, Pennsylvania

Would you be kind enough also to go through the papers in the wallet and send only such as still seem to have pertinence? (e.g., driver's licences would be of no use but insurance cards covering the car would.) As there is a considerable sum of money which belongs actually to the University tied up in the Express cheques, I would appreciate it if they could be sent to me as soon as possible, perhaps by air mail.

I understand that Mr. Young left a small balance in cash in Turkish pounds in your hands; perhaps this could be converted and the cash used to cover any expenses incurred for the storage or mailing of the items. I hope that the sum will be adequate and that the things can be sent soon, although the Express cheques are the only things urgently needed.

Sincerely yours,
