into any negotiations, necessary for the accomplishment of this mission. We may occasionally ask you to represent the Museum in matters other than those concerned with the conduct of the excavations proper. We agree that you should have the final word in all matters concerning the staff of the expedition. You are authorized to delegate authority as you see fit, within the framework of your general responsibility for the welfare of the expedition.

5. The Kourion expedition is an activity of the Mediterranean Section of the Museum; its affairs, therefore, concern the Curator of that Section. Naturally I assume that your correspondence concerning the excavations at Kourion will be with him, and that he will keep you informed of all developments in the Museum which may be of concern to you. However I should be pleased to hear from you personally at any time if you so desire. We trust that you will consult with each other to establish the aims, scope, and methods of the expedition. In the case of matters requiring action by me or the Board of Managers, it will be the duty of the Curator of the Mediterranean Section to make the pertinent recommendation, subsequent to agreement between the two of you as to the course to be followed.

6. A written report should be submitted to the Curator at the end of each season, describing the results of the season's work. This report should be such as to keep the curator well posted on the development of the work. It will be his chief source for informal publicity concerning this aspect of the Museum's activities. He will also depend upon it in deciding which of your discoveries the University Museum should like to acquire. In addition to such seasonal reports, the curator may from time to time ask for additional information, according to his specific needs. We will consider you, as Field Director responsible for the presentation of these reports. You are, of course, free to assign their compilation to other members of the expedition. You may find it advisable to hold each member of the expedition responsible for reporting on his own work under your general responsibility.

7. The Curator of the Mediterranean Section, as Editor of Publications for Kourion, will consult with you concerning the publication of the results of the excavations. We are confident that you will help him with suggestions, and assure the cooperation of other members of the expedition, to whom sections of the work may be assigned. It goes without saying that anyone who stays at Episkopi while working toward the publication of our material will be subject to your authority in the same manner as regular members of the excavating staff.

8. We agree heartily with the proposals you made concerning responsibility for publications in your letter of August 24, 1947 to Dr. Daniel, namely that the Curator is Editor of Publications for Kourion, that his approval is required for such publications, and that it will
