In my June letter of last year, [handwritten: I] wrote you about last year's Spring campaign. I think I wrote you in the same letter that Mr. Hill had received permission from the Director of Antiquiies to dig on the site of the Sanctuary of Apollo. [handwritten: I]t was here that we dug during the Fall Campaign and in the tombs below Curium where we had dug the previous Spring.
The Sanctuary of Apollo also belonge to the site of Kourion though is some distance from the city site. [handwritten: K]ourion is made mention of both by [handwritten: H]eroditus and Strabo, [handwritten: A]nd Strabo gives a brief account of the Sanctuary. [handwritten: M]y very first find was a stone stele inscribed on three sides. On the front were the words TEMENOS APOLLON and on one side, KALOS ERCHE [handwritten: ΚΑΛΩΣ ΕΡΧΗ] and on the other, [handwritten: ΚΑΛΩΣ ΥΠΑΓΕΙΣ]
It was like a sign post to tell us just where to dig. [handwritten: M]y second find were [handwritten: a hup] the sherds of the water jar with part of the word Apollo inscribed upon it and which, as you know, fits perfectly those found by Cesnola some fifty years ago. Subsequently, I found the foundations of two temples, one of which has its walls preserved to some heighth with a moulded base; also a very large building measuring some 20 by 70 metres which probably served as administrative offices for the priests. Before leaving this Spring [handwritten: I] set up three columns with their capitals in situ in
